Abstract:
[Problem] To assuredly detect a target present around a vehicle when the vehicle is to move backward. [Solution] This monitoring device for monitoring circumstances around a vehicle has: a transceiver unit (other vehicle detection units 11a, 11b) that transmits electromagnetic waves and receives reflected waves from a target; a detection unit (arithmetic processing unit 13) that refers to the reflection waves from the target which have been received by the transceiver unit and detects a target present in the rearward area of the vehicle including an area immediately behind the vehicle and a target present in the areas on the rear right side and the rear left side of the vehicle; and a determination unit (arithmetic processing unit 13) that determines whether or not the target detected by the detection unit is likely to come into contact or collide with the vehicle.
