Abstract:
The present invention protects inrush resistors from long-term overcurrent. This motor-drive device is provided with: a DC output unit; a smoothing circuit having a capacitor; an inverter circuit; a current-limiting circuit provided between the DC output unit and the smoothing circuit; and an abnormality-detecting unit for detecting short-circuit abnormalities in the smoothing circuit. The current-limiting circuit has an inrush resistor and a first switching element that are connected in series with each other. The abnormality-detecting unit, with DC power being output from the DC output unit, puts the first switching element in a conductive state over a first period of time to determine whether the voltage across the capacitor terminals exceeds a first threshold value (Vth) within the first period of time, and if the voltage across the capacitor terminals has not exceeded the first threshold value (Vth) within the first period of time, determines that a short-circuit abnormality has occurred in the smoothing circuit.
