A motor unit provided with a motor having a rotor that rotates around a motor axis, a reduction gear that is connected to the motor and has an intermediate gear that rotates around an intermediate axis, a differential gear that is connected to the reduction gear and has a ring gear that rotates around a differential axis, a housing provided with an accommodating space that accommodates the motor, reduction gear and differential gear, oil that is retained in a region below the accommodating space in the vertical direction, and an oil passage that leads oil from the region below the accommodating space in the vertical direction and supplies said oil to the motor. The housing comprises a ceiling part positioned directly above the reduction gear and the differential gear. At least a portion of the ring gear is positioned lower than the liquid surface of the oil retained in the region below the accommodating space in the vertical direction. The motor axis, intermediate axis and differential axis extend parallel to each other in the horizontal direction. The intermediate axis and the differential axis are positioned below the motor axis. The ceiling part is roughly parallel to an imaginary line virtually connecting the motor axis and the differential axis, as viewed from the axial direction of the motor axis.
