One embodiment of a motor unit according to the present invention is provided with a motor, a transmission mechanism, a housing, and an inverter unit. The transmission mechanism includes: a motor drive shaft; a motor drive gear fixed to the motor drive shaft; a counter shaft extending along a counter axis; a counter gear and a drive gear fixed to the counter shaft; a ring gear which meshes with the drive gear and which rotates about an output axis; and an output shaft which is connected to the ring gear and which rotates about the output axis. The motor drive shaft is a hollow shaft which is open at both sides in the axial direction of the motor axis. The output shaft passes through the interior of the motor drive shaft. The inverter unit is positioned directly above the motor. At least part of the inverter unit overlaps the counter gear when viewed from the axial direction of the motor axis.
