Abstract:
A motor vehicle light comprises a casing (1), which is adapted for mounting into each corresponding part of a motor vehicle (V), a light source (2), at least one reflecting surface (3) suitable for re-directing collimated light beams, as well as a lens (4). A diffusion layer (5) is foreseen on that side of said lens (4), which is faced towards the reflecting surface (3), and is arranged adjacent to the lens (4), so that light beams generated by the light source (2) and deflected on said reflecting surface (3) are transferred throughout the diffusion layer (5) prior to entering the lens (4). A light impermeable screen (6) is located between the light source (2) and said diffusion layer (5) and is adapted to prevent light beams from the light source (2) to radiate directly towards the diffusion layer (5), so that only those light beams can be transferred through the diffusion layer (5) and then through the lens (4), which are on said reflecting surface (3) re-directed to form a collimated light.

Claims:
PATENT CLAIMS

1. Motor vehicle light, comprising a casing (1), which is in view of its dimensions and shape adapted for mounting into a car body, a bumper or rear-view mirror or any other suitable part of a motor vehicle (V), further comprising at least one light source (2), in particular LED, which is suitable for generating light beams, at least one reflecting surface (3) adapted for re-directing of said light beams in parallel arrangement in the form of collimated light in a direction of exiting the light, as well as a light permeable lens (4), which allows light beams to pass there-through towards each illuminated area outside the motor vehicle (V), wherein each desired position of said light source (2) is defined by means of a central geometric axis (20) of said light source (2), and the position of the light a such is defined with an optical axis (10) of the light, which coincides with a direction of extending light beams deflected on said reflecting surface (3) towards said lens (4),

characterized in that

a diffusion layer (5) is arranged on that side of the lens (4), which is faced towards the reflecting surface (3), and adjacent to said lens (4) without any gap there-between, so that light beams, when generated by the light source (2) and deflected on the reflecting surface (3), pass through the diffusion layer (5) prior to entering the lens (4),

and in that a light impermeable screen (6) is arranged in the area between the light source (2) and the diffusion layer (5), and is adapted to prevent light beams from being emitted from the light source (2) directly towards the diffusion layer (5) and the lens (4), so that only those light beams are allowed to pass said diffusion layer (5) and said lens (4), which are on said reflecting surface (3) deflected in parallel arrangement in the form of collimated light,

wherein the geometric axis (20) of the light source (2) extends at least approximately in transversal direction with respect to the optical axis (10) of the light.

2. Light according to Claim 1, characterized in that said geometric axis (20) of the light source (2) is arranged at least approximately perpendicularly with respect to the optical axis (10) of the light.

3. Light according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said diffusion layer (5) consists of a light permeable material with integrated randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting of a different light impermeable material.

4. Light according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said diffusion layer (5) consists of a light permeable material with integrated randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting of a different at least partially light permeable material.

Light according to anyone of Claims 1 - 4, characterized in that on the one hand said diffusion layer (5) consists of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers in which micro-particles are integrated, and on the other hand also the lens (4) is made of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers, wherein said diffusion layer (5) is produced integrally with the lens (4), in particular by means of two-component injection of thermoplastic materials of the diffusion layer (5) and the lens (4) into appropriate mold.

6. Light according to anyone of Claims 1 - 5, characterized in that the reflecting surface (3) is arranged on the inner surface of the light casing (1).

7. Light according to anyone of Claims 1 - 6, characterized in that the light impermeable screen (6) is made integrally with the casing (1), namely represents an integral part of said casing (1).

Description:
Motor vehicle light

The invention belongs to the field of transporting, in particular to lighting equipment for motor vehicles, namely to motor vehicle lights, and in particular to lights, which are primarily intended as signaling lights for marking the vehicle or for indicating change of direction of movement of the vehicle.

The purpose of the invention is to create a simple motor vehicle light with small dimensions, in particular in a direction of the optical axis i.e. the depth of the light in a direction of exiting the light, and consisting of several components only, wherein such light is capable to emit uniformly dimmed diffusion light along to complete visible external surface of the lens, namely the light without contrast areas and/or shining. A motor vehicle light is disclosed in EP 0 990 838 A2 and comprises a light source, which is surrounded by tubular reflector, which is on the one end portion parabolic, and on the other end portion slanted. Its lens includes a plurality of elements, which are intended for deflecting light beams in the vertical direction, and elements, which are intended for deflecting light beams in the horizontal direction, and the purpose of such light is to ensure a homogenous distribution of light beams regardless to the fact that the reflector is slanted due to curvature of the car body. Light beams, which are generated in a light source, are on reflecting surface deflected at different angles and are therefore not parallel to each other, however the intensity of the light emitted by said light appears to be uniformly distributed along the visible external surface of the lens of the light. Regardless to that, in practical application of such light, the appearance is in fact still a non-homogenous plurality of bright points, among which small areas still remain visible, which are less illuminated. On the other hand, said tubular concept of the reflector requires essential dimensions in a direction of optical axis, which is essentially larger than the diameter of the reflector, which in the practice makes mounting such light at least to certain locations in the motor vehicle quite impossible.

The invention refers to a motor vehicle light, comprising a casing, which is in view of its dimensions and shape adapted for mounting into a car body, a bumper or rear- iew mirror or any other suitable part of a motor vehicle. In addition to said casing, such light further comprises at least one light source, in particular LED, which is suitable for generating light beams, at least one reflecting surface which is adapted for redirecting of said light beams in parallel arrangement in the form of collimated light in a direction of exiting the light, as well as a light permeable lens, which allows light beams to pass there-through towards each illuminated area outside the motor vehicle. Each desired position of said light source is defined by means of a central geometric axis of said light source, and the position of the light a such is defined with an optical axis of the light, which coincides with a direction of extending light beams deflected on said reflecting surface towards said lens. The light according to the invention is characterized in that a diffusion layer is arranged on that side of the lens, which is faced towards the reflecting surface, and adjacent to said lens without any gap there-between, so that light beams, when generated by the light source and deflected on the reflecting surface, pass through the diffusion layer prior to entering the lens. Simultaneously, a light impermeable screen is arranged in the area between the light source and the diffusion layer, and is adapted to prevent light beams from being emitted from the light source directly towards the diffusion layer and the lens, so that only those light beams are allowed to pass said diffusion layer and said lens, which are deflected on said reflecting surface in parallel arrangement in the form of collimated light. Simultaneously, the geometric axis of the light source extends at least approximately in transversal direction with respect to the optical axis of the light, wherein in a preferred embodiment said geometric axis of the light source is arranged at least approximately perpendicularly with respect to the optical axis of the light.

In one of possible embodiments, said diffusion layer consists of a light permeable material with integrated randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting of a different light impermeable material.

In a further possible embodiment, said diffusion layer consists of a light permeable material with integrated randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting of a different at least partially light permeable material.

The invention further provides that on the one hand said diffusion layer (consists of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers in which micro-particles are integrated, and on the other hand also the lens is made of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers, wherein said diffusion layer is produced integrally with the lens, in particular by means of two-component injection of thermoplastic materials of the diffusion layer and the lens into appropriate mold. According to the invention, the reflecting surface is preferably arranged on the inner surface of the light casing.

According to the invention, the light impermeable screen is made integrally with the casing, namely represents an integral part of said casing.

The invention will be described in detail on the basis of an embodiment, which is presented in the enclosed drawings, wherein

Fig. 1 presents a motor vehicle light in its mounted state;

Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the light according to Fig. 1 along the plane A - A;

Fig. 3 is an isometric presentation of the light in its mounted state; and

Fig. 4 schematically presents direction of light beams through the light according to the invention.

A motor vehicle light according to Figs 1 - 4 comprising a casing 1 , which is in view of its dimensions and shape adjusted for mounting into a car body, a bumper, a rear- view mirror or any other suitable part of a motor vehicle V. The light further comprising at least one light source 2, which is in this particular embodiment LED (abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode, which is known to persons skilled in the art) and which is intended for generating light beams, which are then emitted by the light towards a pre-determined illuminated area in the adjacency of the motor vehicle.

The light further comprises at least one reflecting surface 3, which is adapted for redirecting of light beams received from said light source 2 in parallel arrangement by establishing a collimated light (Fig. 4), which is then emitted by such light.

Still further, the light comprises a light permeable lens 4, which allows light beams to pas there-through in order to exit from the light towards said pre-determined illuminated area in the adjacency of the light. Each desired position of said light source 2 is defined by means of a central geometric axis 20 of said light source 2, which in this particular embodiment means a longitudinal central axis of the LED, which is in fact a central point of emission of light beams.

On the other hand, a position of mounting the light as such into each motor vehicle part V is defined by means of an optical axis 10 of the light, which coincides with the direction of light beams when re-directed from said reflecting surface 3 towards said lens 4 and which generally corresponds to the direction of emitting light beams from the light, as known to persons skilled in the art.

Moreover, the light according to the invention is furnished with a diffusion layer 5, which is arranged on that side of the lens 4, which is facing towards said reflecting layer, and closely to said lens 4 in abutment therewith, namely without any gap therebetween. Thanks to such arrangement of said diffusion layer 5 and the lens 4, the light beams generated by said light source 2 and re-directed on said reflecting surface 3 must pass said diffusion layer 5 prior to entering the lens 4 and exiting the light. In a preferred embodiment, the reflecting surface 3 is arranged on the inner surface of the light casing 1.

Said diffusion layer 5 consists of a light permeable material with integrated and randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting of another light impermeable material, or optionally of a light permeable material with integrated and randomly distributed reflecting particles consisting another at least partially light permeable material. Due to the presence of said particles within the material of said diffusion layer 5, visually uniform distribution of light beamy in different directions is achieved prior to entering the lens 4 and exiting the light, which generates a dimmed diffusion light along the complete surface of the lens 4, wherein the intensity of such light is perfectly uniform, without contrast areas and/or shining. In accordance with the invention it is particularly preferred that on the one hand said diffusion layer 5 consists of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers in which micro-particles are integrated, and on the other hand also the lens 4 is made of a thermoplastic material on the basis of polymers. In such case said diffusion layer 5 is simply produced integrally with the lens 4 by means of two-component injection of thermoplastic materials of the diffusion layer 5 and the lens 4 into appropriate mold, which is known to those skilled in the art and by which initially the lens 4 is formed within the mold and upon that also the diffusion layer 5, or vice versa.

In order to assure a reliable operation of the light according to the invention, a light impermeable screen 6 must be arranged in the area between the light source 2 and said diffusion layer 5, by which the light is prevented from being emitted from the light source 2 directly towards said diffusion layer 5 or the lens 4, respectively. Consequently, only those light beams are allowed to pass said diffusion layer 5 and the lens 4, which are re-directed on the reflecting layer 3 and form a collimated light (Fig. 4). In a preferred embodiment, said light impermeable screen 6 is made integrally with the casing 1 , or represents an integral part of said casing 1.

As shown in Figs 1 - 3, the geometric axis 20 of the light source 2 extends at least approximately in a transversal direction with respect to said optical axis 10 of the light and is preferably arranged perpendicularly with respect to said optical axis 10 of the light. Consequently, on the one hand a suitable distribution of light beams from the light source 2 apart from the screen 6 and towards the reflecting layer 3 and then through the diffusion layer 5 and the lens 4 out from the light is assured, and on the other hand, such concept also enables minimizing dimensions of the light in particular in a direction of the optical axis i.e. the depth of the light, so that the light is really thin and allows comfortable mounting into various motor vehicle parts.

It is therefore obvious for those skilled in the art, that invention provides a simple motor vehicle light having small dimensions, in particular in a direction of the optical axis i.e. the depth of the light in a direction of exiting the light, and consisting of several components only, wherein such light is capable to emit uniformly dimmed diffusion light along to complete visible external surface of the lens 4, namely the light without contrast areas and/or shining.
