Abstract:
A movie stream decoding apparatus which decodes a plurality of movie streams within a fixed period of time with one decoding apparatus, during which the movie stream decoding apparatus takes playback quality into account, while avoiding playback delay even when there is temporary processing amount congestion. The movie stream decoding apparatus is provided with: an input extraction section which extracts and inputs a processing unit of encoded data from a movie stream to be processed; a feature value acquisition section which acquires the feature values of the extracted processing unit; a decoding processing section which decodes the extracted processing unit with a scheme that is either a normal processing operation or a plurality of simple processing operations; and a processing time estimation section which calculates, based on the feature values, the estimated value of the decoding time under normal processing of the processing unit. In cases when the decoding time estimated by the processing time estimation section is within the allowed processing time allocated for each of the plurality of processing units, normal processing is selected as the decoding processing section scheme for processing the processing unit. In other cases, simple processing which enables processing within the allowed processing time is selected as the decoding scheme for processing the processing unit.
