Description:
MOXA-CAUTERY EQUIPMENT AND ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT Technical Field This invention is an invention related to moxibustion, a technique used in traditional oriental medicine.

Traditionally in oriental medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and herbal medicine is used to treat patients. Generally, patients were treated with herbal medicine, and in more serious cases, moxibustion was used in combination with herbal medicine, and in the most severe cases, acupuncture was used in addition to moxibustion and herbal medicine. Generally, moxibustion refers to a method of treatment where artemisia is either placed directly on the affected area and the lit on fire or placed on a base plate and lit on fire. The heat released from the burning artemisia is transferred either directly or indirectly to the skin.

Background Art Until now, in moxibustion, compressed or loose artemisia was formed into a chestnut sized lump and lit on fire to transfer the heat to the skin, and most moxibustion devices were made of natural materials and the artemisia was placed on the top portion of the device and lit on fire.

The problem with this type of treatment is when the patient moves during moxibustion, the burning artemisia may come apart and can burn the patient, the ashes come apart and a lot of smoke is produced filling the area with smoke. In addition, during this treatment, the patient must remain still making it uncomfortable for the patient.

There are also devices such as smoke exhaust devices that prevent patient burns and eliminate smoke filling the room, but these devices are large in size and make it uncomfortable for the operator to move around the patient.

In addition, there are electronic devices that burn the artemisia, but the problem is that the operator must hold the device and only a limited number of areas can be treated at one time.

Also, with electronic devices, the motion of the operator is limited to the length of the cable.

Background Art This invention takes in to consideration the above listed problems with moxibustion (release of smoke and problems arising from the burning artemisia coming apart) and aims to create a device that will solve those problems.

The goal of this invention is to develop a method to pack and fix the artemisia to prevent it from coming apart, trap the smoke released from the burning artemisia to reduce the amount of smoke released into the air and allow for it to be attached to any part of the body and allow for movement.

In order to deal with the problems listed above, this invention is composed of a moxibustion chamber, a fixing ring and an exhaust device.

In order to eliminate the problems with existing methods of moxibustion, the fixing ring is made with ventilation holes and the artemisia can easily be compacted in the interior of the ring with the hand and the side of the fixing ring has ventilation holes and there are grooves in the top and bottom portion of the ring to allow for air to easily flow to the burning artemisia.

In addition, the upper portion and the sides of the exterior of the device also has ventilation holes to reduce the amount of smoke by allowing for the smoke in the interior to be exhausted through the sides and the exterior is formed to allow for the attachment of additional devices.

As explained above, this invention has a fixing ring that the artemisia is placed on and a cover is placed over the ring and additional devices are attached to this cover and is fixed on the body. This moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) eliminates the problems stated earlier.

This device scatters the smoke released to reduce the amount of smoke and allows for free movement with the device attached.

FIG. 8 is a diagram showing the operation of the moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment).

As shown in FIG. 3, this moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) is composed of the external body (A), Artemisia fixing ring (C) and internal moxibustion chamber (E), with a burn prevention net (D) and protection net (F).

The external body (A) of this moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) has a ventilation hole on the top portion (l0) of the device as well as several ventilation holes on the sides (l 1) of the device and these holes help to dissipate the smoke from the burning artemisia (B) that is gathered at the top portion and exhaust the smoke out through the ventilation holes on the sides, and the ventilation hole on the lower side (12) can be placed on top of or slightly off of the ventilation groove (43) of the moxibustion chamber (E) to control the supply and release of air. The protruding part (15) of the external body (A) prevents the artemisia fixing ring (C) from coming in contact with the external body (A) to prevent direct heat transfer. In addition, when the moxibustion chamber (E) in placed in the interior of the external body (A), the protruding area on the internal surface (14) of the external body (A) attaches to the protruding area on the external surface (44) of the moxibustion chamber (E) and fixes the external

body (A) to the internal body. The hook (13) on the external body (A) allows for the attachment of supplemental devices (ear attachment device (G), moxibustion band (H) ) to fix the device to the body.

In addition, in order to allow for the free movement of the patient during moxibustion treatment, the burning artemisia (B) must not be displaces when shaken on turned upside down, and so the artemisia fixing ring (C) is formed in the shape of a ring and the artemisia (B) can be easily compacted with the hand and fixed, and the several ventilation holes (20) on the side of the fixing ring (C) and ventilation groove (21) on bottom or top allows for air to reach the burning artemisia (B). Also, the ventilation holes (22) on the side of the artemisia fixing ring (C) maintain a space with the external body (A) preventing the direct transfer of heat from the burning artemisia (B) in the fixing ring (C) to the external body (A).

As another method of treatment, the artemisia stand (I) can be attached to the ventilation hole (20) on the side of the artemisia fixing ring (C) and the artemisia placed in the inside of the fixing fing (C) and lit on fire. The artemisia stand (I) can then be used as a hand-held device for treatment of the desired area.

Another example of treatment: Aekwonku method-the aekwonku method refers to the method of treatment where artemisia rolled in paper held in the hand and burned and moved around the affected area.

The groove on the upper part (41) of the moxibustion chamber (E) in the interior of this invention allows for the attachment of the artemisia fixing ring (C) and burn prevention net (D), and the connector between the groove on the upper part (41) of the moxibustion chamber (E) and the heat transfer hole (42) is at a slant to reduce the surface area of the artemisia (B) and allow for more efficient burning of the artemisia (B). In addition, the heat from the burning artemisia (B) in the artemisia fixing ring (C) is transferred through the heat transfer hole (42) in

the moxibustion chamber (E) to the lower groove (43) and the lower groove (43) increases the area of heat transfer therefore transferring the heat widely over the treatment area. Also, the lower groove (43) in the moxibustion chamber (E) allows air to enter and leave the artemisia fixing ring (C), and the amount of air can be controlled by altering the position of the lower groove (12) on the external body (A) and the lower groove (43) on the moxibustion chamber (E).

The protrusion on the interior (14) of the external body (A) and the protrusion on the exterior (44) of the moxibustion chamber (E) fit together to form the connection.

As another example of treatment with this invention, artemisia (B) can be placed in the artemisia fixing ring (C) and lit on fire and then placed on the upper part of the moxibustion chamber (E) for treatment.

Another example of treatment : Indirect ring method-the indirect ring method refers to the method of treatment where a doughnut shaped moxibustion ring is placed on the area of treatment and artemisia is placed on top of the ring and burned.

In this invention, the artemisia (B) is placed on the artemisia fixing ring (C) which is placed on the upper part of the moxibustion chamber (E) and the external body (A) is placed on top of that and then supplemental devices (ear attachment device, moxibustion band) are connected and fixed to the area on the body to be treated.

Supplemental safety devices, burn prevention net (D) and hair protection net (F) are like the following.

The above burn prevention net (D) is composed of a metal net fixing ring (31) surrounding the outside of a metal net (30), and this device is placed on the upper groove (41) of the moxibustion chamber (E). Even if the burning artemisia falls out of the artemisia fixing ring (C), it will land on the top of the burn prevention net (D) and the treatment area will be protected.

The above hair protection net (F) is composed of a cotton net (50) and a doughnut shaped upper sticker (51) fixing the outer edge of the cotton net (50) and a lower sticker (52) using double sided or single sided tape attached to the lower part of the cotton net (50). This device is placed on top of the treatment area and below the moxibustion device to protect the skin and hair.

The supplemental devices of this invention, the ear attachment device (G) and moxibustion band (H) are like the following.

The above ear attachment device (G) surrounds the lower part of the above moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) with a fixing ring (61), and the internal ring and moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) connector (62) of the fixing ring (61) attaches to the hook (13) on the external body (A) and when the ear attachment device (G) is applied, the moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) can be rotated. In addition, when the length of the ear attachment device (G) is controlled with the length controlling device (60), the position of the moxibustion device (Moxa-Cautry equipment) can be controlled.

The above moxibustion band (H) is composed of a elastic band (70) with one end attached to the moxibustion device hook connector (71) and one end of the band (70) has a band control section (72) that can be fixed.

This invention is composed of the external body (A), artemisia fixing ring (B) and internal moxibustion chamber (E), burn prevention net (D) and hair protection net (F) for safety and ear attachment device (G) and moxibustion band (H) for attachment to the body.
