Abstract:
Multi-Wavelength Laser Apparatus and Methods An apparatus includes a laser (10) that includes a plurality of optical cavities (13_1 - 13_N), separate optical gain media (18_1 - 18_N) for each of the cavities, an optical demultiplexer (16), and a periodic optical filter (15). The optical demultiplexer demultiplexes a common portion of the optical cavities at the input port (16_0) into separate portions at the output ports (16_1 - 16_N). The demultiplexer may have wavelength selectivity resulting in the wavelengths at the output ports (16_1 - 16_N) corresponding to an ITU grid. The periodic optical filter (15) is inserted into the common portion of the optical cavities to increase wavelength control by the Vernier effect. Optical cavities (13_1 - 13_N) are delimited by a common mirror (11) and further mirrors (12_1 - 12_N) for each individual optical cavity.
