Abstract:
Provided are: a multilayer ceramic electronic component wherein laminated internal electrode layers and an external electrode can be electrically connected reliably even in cases where the internal electrode layers are reduced in the thickness; and a method for manufacturing the multilayer ceramic electronic component. The multilayer ceramic electronic component is provided with: a laminate wherein a plurality of ceramic layers and a plurality of internal electrode layers are laminated, said internal electrode layers being disposed on a plurality of interfaces among the interfaces between the ceramic layers; and an external electrode which is formed on the outer surface of the laminate and is electrically connected to one end portions of the internal electrode layers. Each ceramic layer has a thin portion in the vicinity of the one end portion, in said thin portion the thickness continuously decreasing toward the one end portion; and each internal electrode layer has a thick portion in the vicinity of the portion connected to the external electrode, in said thick portion the thickness continuously increasing in one side toward the connected portion corresponding to the shape of the thin portion of the ceramic layer. The distance between the other end portion of one internal electrode layer, said other end portion being not joined to the external electrode, and the thick portion of an adjacent internal electrode layer is not less than the interlayer distance between the internal electrode layers.
