Abstract:
This invention provides a multilayer ceramic electronic component in which the interface between the ceramic at the surface of a ceramic body and the tip of the section of an external electrode that wraps around the side of said ceramic body is resistant to erosion by a plating solution, resulting in high reliability. At the interface between the ceramic at the surface of the ceramic body and the tip of the section of the external electrode that wraps around the side of the ceramic body, there is a glass that (a) contains a first alkaline-earth oxide, namely BaO, and one or more second alkaline-earth oxides, namely CaO and/or SrO, wherein (b) the combined content of the first alkaline-earth oxide and the second alkaline-earth oxide(s) is in the 30-70 mol% range and (c) the SiO2 content is in the 15-60 mol% range. The molar ratio between the first alkaline-earth oxide and the second alkaline-earth oxide(s) satisfies the relation 0.1 ≤ (first alkaline-earth oxide)/(second alkaline-earth oxide(s)) ≤ 0.5.
