Abstract:
Provided is a multilayer-coated aluminum base material which is suitable for use as a member required to have thermal insulation capabilities, such as an engine member; which has exceptional adhesion to base materials comprising aluminum or aluminum alloys; and which has satisfactory thermal insulation capabilities. This multilayer-coated aluminum base material has an alumite layer and a ceramic layer formed in succession on a base material comprising aluminum or an aluminum alloy, the multilayer-coated aluminum base material characterized in that a plurality of cracks that reach the base material surface are formed in the alumite layer, and the ceramic layer penetrates into the interior of the cracks, as well as penetrating into voids formed between the alumite layer and the base material surface in proximity to the bottom of the cracks.
