Abstract:

Provided are: a multilayer filter medium for use in a filter, said filter medium making possible a filter that has high trapping efficiency, low pressure loss, and a long filter lifetime; and a filter using said multilayer filter medium. A multilayer filter medium which is used as a constituent member of a filter and has a multi-layer structure, said multilayer filter medium containing a wet-laid nonwoven-fabric layer (A) and a nonwoven-fabric layer (B) that has a lower density than said wet-laid nonwoven-fabric layer (A). Said wet-laid nonwoven-fabric layer (A) contains: 0.5-20% by weight, with respect to the weight of the layer, of short-cut nanofibers that comprise a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer, have a single-fiber diameter (D) of 100 to 1,000 nm, and are cut such that the ratio (L/D) between the length (L) of said fibers and the aforementioned single-fiber diameter (D) is between 100 and 2,500, inclusive; and core-sheath-composite binder fibers having a single-fiber diameter of at least 5 µm. Also, a filter using the abovementioned multilayer fiber medium, wherein the abovementioned nonwoven-fabric layer (B) is disposed on the fluid-intake side.
