Abstract:
Disclosed is a recording method for recording on a multilayer optical disc having three or more recording layers by ensuring an adequate test region without reducing the user data region and appropriately controlling the laser power applied to each layer. An optical disc having at least a first recording layer and a second recording layer disposed nearer to the light incidence surface than the first recording layer is used. The first recording layer includes a first test region composed of multiple small regions, and the second recording layer includes a second test region composed of multiple small regions. The relative accuracy of the radial positions of the multiple layers and a prescribed radial distance L corresponding to the light spot diameter are predetermined. If a given small region in the second test region is test-recorded, small regions in the first test region at radial distances shorter than the prescribed radial distance L to the recoded test small region in the second test region are used as small regions not to be test-recorded. As a result, even if the radial positions of the test regions of the multiple layers are substantially superposed on one another, light power learning can be performed with high accuracy. Therefore, the test regions of the multiple layers can be used and arranged with no waste. Since the recording power learning is not influenced by the recording state of the other layers, the accuracy of the recording power learning can be improved. Hence, the recording quality and the reliability of the recording data are improved.
