Abstract:
A multiple function lock (10) comprising a body (12), an engaging element (16) having a first end (18)and a second end (20), a locking mechanism for securing the first end (18) and the second end (20) of the engaging element (16) to the body (12), and a gate mechanism (30) for selectively concealing or revealing a passage in the body (12) through' which the second end (20) may move to unlock the lock (10) In certain embodiments, a multiple function lock (10) may comprise a body (12), a U-shaped shackle (16) having toe (20) and heel (18) portions, the heel portion (18) rotatably secured within the body (12), a locking mechanism (14) for locking the heel (18) and the toe (20) portions within the body (12) , a passage (24) through the body (12) adjacent to the toe portion (20), the toe portion (20) adapted to move through the passage (24) to unlock the lock (10), and either a retaining cup (30), an adjustable gate (52), or an outer housing (70), each being adapted to selectively block or reveal the passage (24).
