As shown in Figs. 5 and 9 illustrating a chair in open position, a seat C comprises a bottom portion 19, a back-board 20 and a pair of cross-linked leg members. The bottom and back portions 19, 20 are

pivoted to' a brace member 31. The leg members has two legs 21, 22. Forwardly sloping legs 21 are pivoted to a brace member 18a fitted on the edge of the lower frame means 18. As shown in Fig. 11 rearwardly extend- ing legs 22 are connected by a connecting portion 22a. Hook members 18b are provided on the lower frame means 18 by welding or the like. The connecting portion 22a will engage the hook member 18b when in open position as shown in Fig. 5 and 9.

To prevent the endwise movement of the slidable base member 5 in one direction, hook members 25 is urged outwardly by a spring 26 within the respective tubular members 24, one of which tubular members is secured near each side of the seat supporting frame means 7b by welding. The upper frame means 17 in the bottom flanged portions of the slidable base member 5 has a pair of opposing slots 17' to engage the hook members 25 when the present invention is in the position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

When it is not necessary to use the seat member C as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 11, the back and bottom portions 20, 19 of the seat C may be moved in substantial parallel relation to enable the seat C to be pivoted into engagement with the upper face of the bottom portion 23 with the forwardly sloping legs 21 being still pivoted to the brace member is and other legs 22 being disengaged with the hook members 18b.

The seats S ] _ , S2 , S3 which are similar in size to the respective seat support member P , P2 and P3 are provided with cushions 27 and upholstered coverings 28 and will be put on the respective seat support member P , P2 and P3 when the present invention is used as a conventional bed. At this time, a space is provided

between the back-rest 2 and the first seat Si , so it is preferable to put on auxiliary smaller seat S4 in the space.

Multipurpose Bed Modified for Use as a sofa

With the multipurpose bed in open position as shown in Figs. 1, 6 , the slidable base member 5 is moved toward the sofa member 1 with the hook member 25 and the slot 17' being in engaging condition so that the hinge members 11, the Y-shaped brace members 13 will be in position, as shown in Fig. 7 indicated by the phantom line. To vary the angle of inclination of the seat S2 , the spacing between the sofa member 1 and the slidable base member 5 will be manually varied by a user.

When it is desired to the sofa in inclined posi¬ tion as shown in Fig. 2 to move to the position as shown in Fig. 4, the slidable base member 5 will be provided within the sofa member 1, with the first and middle seat support assemblies Pi , Pj being pivoted into engagement with the front face of the back-rest 2 and the pivoted shorter leg 12 and longer leg 13 moving in co-ordination into a compact folded unit as shown in Fig. 7 indicated by solid line. In this sofa con¬ dition, one of the seats and the auxiliary seat are not needed.

Multipurpose Bed modified for use as a Cradle for babies or children

With the sofa 1 in position as shown in Figs. 4 and I f the seats S2 and S3 will be removed resulting in the disclosure of the middle or second seat support¬ ing assembly P2 and the-third seat supporting assembly

P3. The third seat supporting assembly P3 will be moved through substantially 90 degrees to the hori*- zontal surface by pivoting the support member 16, to provide one of the longitudinal protective wall mem- bers with the hook 25 being disengaged with the slot 17'. The second seat supporting assembly P2 and the arms 3 will be utilized as another protective wall members as shown in Figs. 3 and 8. An auxiliary board 29 to be served as a floor will be mounted on ' the upper frame means 17 in the bottom flanged portions of the sliding base member 5 and on the board 29 will be put one of the cushioned seats S]_ , S2 , S3 for providing comfortable playing places for babies or children as shown in Figs. 3 and 8.

Multipurposed Bed Modified for use as a Desk and Chair

With the present invention in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 8, the slidable base member 5 is moved to a suitable spaced distance from the main sofa member 1 and then the auxiliary board 29 and the seat thereon are removed from the member 5.

To provide a desk member ^ the second seat support assembly P2 is pivoted upwardly through approximately 90 degrees and locked in place by a pair of supporting legs 30, the arrangement being such that the upper ends of the supporting legs 30 are inserted into recesses 7-'--- on the underside of the seat supporting frame means 7b and the lower ends of the supporting legs 30 are pivoted to the forwardly frame means 4 as shown in Figs. 5 and 9. When not in use, the supporting leg members 30 are nested within the frame means 4. To vary the angle of the slanting of the seat support assembly P2 , it is

preferable for the seat " support assembly P2 to have a plurality of recesses 7' on the underside thereof. The auxiliary board 29 may be mounted over the seat support assembly P2 to providea smooth desk surface. The auxiliary board 29 has inserting members 29a on the underside thereof,so that when mounted on the seat support assembly P2 , the inserting members 29a may be fittedly inserted between the rectangular bars 8 and will lock the auxiliary board 29 in place.

The chair has been positioned as described before and the legs 21, 22 have transverse holes at their overlapping portions through which a pin 33 is moved to lock the chair in its place.

The' present invention is in no way limited to embodiments described and represented herein, and may be modified in many ways by these skilled in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. For instance, in open position as shown in Fig. 1, three seats S ] _ , S2 , S3 and auxiliary seat S4 on seat support ' assemblies may be removed, so that a genial and cool sleeping due to a vent between bars 8, is made at a violently hot weather.
