Abstract:
This muscle power assisting device comprises: a first mounting fixture attached at one of two sites on a human body, the sites having a joint positioned therebetween; a second mounting fixture that is capable of rotating relative to the first mounting fixture around an assistance axis and is attached at the other of the two sites; and a brake mechanism that restricts the rotation of the second mounting fixture around the assistance axis relative to the first mounting fixture in at least one direction. The brake mechanism comprises a brake rotational element that rotates relative to the first mounting fixture in tandem with the second mounting fixture, and a contact member that moves toward and away from the brake rotational element by moving in a direction that is not parallel to the direction orthogonal to the assistance axis. The contact member contacts the brake rotational element to restrict the free rotation of the second mounting fixture around the assistance axis with respect to the first mounting fixture.
