Description:
Nail Clippers

[Technical Field) The present invention relates to nail clippers used for clipping or trimming fingernails or toenails and, more particularly, to nail clippers designed so that users can easily collect the removed nail pieces in the inner portion of the clippers and cleanly use the clippers.

[Background Art] Generally, a nail clipper is a device for severing or trimming fingernails or toenails, and typically includes an upper plate and a lower plate which are fastened togetherto one end thereof. The cutting edges which are opposite to the edges of the upper and lower plates, are formed into a body. A pressing lever is freely and rotatably fitted to the upper side of the upper plate. The nails are removed by pressing such a pressing lever.

However, such conventional nail clippers are sanitarily problematic in that when clipping nails, the removed nail pieces are scattered irregularly and in every direction. It would be difficult to easily clean the scattered nail pieces.

Therefore, the nail clippers designedso as to collect the nails have been suggested in the art. For example, one type of such clippers was designed to wrap the entire nail clippers into the animal shape by molding, and another type was designed to treat a side section of the nail clippers with a film of bellow or accordion shape and mount a rubber plate at the inner side of the cutting portion. In the case of the former type, there was inconvenience in its use because the nail clipper increases in volume, and it was not economicalbecause the cost of preparation is increased. In the case of the latter type, it was difficult to smoothly conduct an operation for fitting a rubber

film and a film of bellow shape, and there weredifficulties in the actual preparation.

Further, it could expect the desired effect due to a low rigidity.

[Detailed Description of Invention Therefore, the present invention has been made in an effort to solve the problems occurring in the related art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a nail clipper designed so that users can easily collect the removed nail pieces and cleanly use the clipper.

To accomplish the above object, the present invention provides nail clippers characterized by comprising: a lower plate which has a plate shape and is formed with a fixed blade projected in the upper side and front direction at one side edge thereof ; a pair of side plates wherein the two side sections of the lower plate are bended and extendedto an upper side to form a side wall and a pair of long grooves opposite to each other are formed to the end of the upper edge; an upper plate wherein a rear edge of the lower plate is extended and bended with an elasticity so as to be opposite to the lower plate and thus is positioned inside the side plate, and the rear edge is supported by a rivet along with the lower plate, a cutting blade which is opposite to a fixed blade of the lower plate is formed at the edge, and a safely fitting groove is formed at one side of the upper section adjacent to the edge; and a pressing lever which has a plate shape and is assembled by a pin so that the edge can be moved within the long groove of the side plate, and a pressing projection is projected and formed at the lower side of the edge.

The above pressing lever is, when positioned rearward of the long groove, in a state wherein the pressing projection is closely adhered to the safely fitting groove of the upper plate. The pressing plate is in a state closely adhered to the upper section of the upper plate. If the pressing plate is pushed frontward and positioned frontward of the long groove, the pressing projectionis deviated from the safely fitting groove and the pressing plate is erected from the upper plate; itis in a preliminary state to sever nails. When the pressing lever is pressed in this state, the pressing projection of the pressing lever is pressed with the upper plate around a central pin and the nails are

severed while contacting the cutting blade with a fixed blade.

The severed nail pieces is prevented from scattering while they are collected into the collection chamber inside the nail clippers due to the side plate. The nails all are severed and the nail pieces collected in the inner side of the clipper are discarded.

Thereby, a sanitary clipping is made.

explained below in greater detail with reference to the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing one example of the nail clipper according to the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side cross-sectional view showing its operation state.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the nail clippers according to the present inventioninclude a lower plate (2), a side plate (3) and an upper plate (4) so that a collection chamber (1) is formedin the inner portion. A pressing lever (5) is mounted at upper side of the upper plate (4).

The lower plate (2), the side plate (3) and the upper plate (4) are formed together into a plate shape. The edge of the lower plate (2) is formed with a fixed blade (6) to be projected in the upper side and front direction.

The side plates (3) include one pair opposite to each other, which are bended andextended upward at the two sides of the lower plate (2). One pair of long grooves (7) opposite to each other are formed in the upper side and front direction of the side plate (3). The long grooves (7) are formed so that the two edges have a larger diameter than the middle.

The upper plate (4) is formed so that a rear edge of the lower plate (2) is extended and bended with an elasticity so as to be opposite to the lower plate (2). The rear edge of the upper plate (4) is fastened to the lower plate (2) by a rivet (8) for an upward movement restriction by an elastic resistance. The edge of the upper plate (4) is formed with a cutting blade (9) which is opposite to a fixed blade (6) of the lower plate (2). The upper plate (4) is positioned inside of the side plate (3) and is formed with a safely fitting groove (10) at a position adjacent to the edge.

The inner side of the side plate (3) is mounted with a pressing lever (S) upward of the upper plate (4). The pressing lever (5) is movably mounted to the long groove (7) by a pin (11).

The lower side of the edge of the pressing lever (5) is projected and formed with a pressing projection (12) in the rear direction of the pin (11). When a pin (11) is positioned at the rear edge of the long groove (7), the pressing projection (12) is in a state to be safely adhered to the safely fitting groove (10), with the pressing lever (5)

being formed to be perfectly fitted with the upper plate (4).

Further, one upper edge of the pressing lever (5) is formed with a nail cleaning portion (13) capable of cleaning nails. The nail cleaning portion (13) has a depressed shape, or can have a plain section or a projected shape. Particularly, when the nail cleaning portion (13) has a depressed shape, it is easy to nip nails until the nails are removed. Herein, since the upper plate (4) restricts an upward elastic resistance even by a pressing lever (4), the desired function can be obtained without providing a rivet (8).

The function of the present example having the above mentioned construction is explained below. Thecross-section shown in Fig. 2 is a state wherein a pressing lever (5) is fitted with the upper plate (4). In this state, when the pressing lever (5) is raised and pressed frontward, the pin (11) is moved frontward within the long groove (7). When the pin (11) is completely moved to the edge of the long groove (7), the pressing projection (12) is deviated from the safely fitting groove (10) and the side edge of the pressing lever (5) is raised.

Herein, upon moving of the pin (11), the middle of the long groove (7) has a narrower diameter as compared with the two edges of the long groove (7). Therefore, a proper abrasion is produced when the pin (11) is moved. When positioned at the two edges, it is in a loose state and the pin (11) is not easily moved unless an artificial press is added.

In such astate, the nails are inserted between the fixed blade (6) and the cutting blade (9). Upon pressing a rear edge of the pressing lever (5), the lever (5) is rotated around a central pin (11) and the pressing projection (12) presses the upper plate (4) with the operation of the lever. By doing so, a cutting blade removes nails.

Further, the removed nail pieces are collected in a collection chamber (1) and they are not scattered out of the chamber.

Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view showing another example of the present invention. In Fig. 3, the clipper includes a lower plate (22), a side plate (23) and an upper plate (24) in the same manner as examplesof Figs. 1 and 2, wherein a collection chamber (21) is formed in the inner portion of the clipper and a pressing lever (25) is

mounted at the upper side of the upper plate (24).

The lower plate (22), the side plate (23) and the upper plate (24) are formed together as a plate shape. The edge of the lower plate (22) is formed with a fixed blade (26) to be projected to the upper side and front direction.

The side plate (23) is consisted of one pair opposite to each other, is bended and extended upward at the two sides of the lower plate (22), and one pair of long grooves (27) opposite to each other are formed atthe upper side and front direction of the side plate (23). The long groove (27) is formed so that the two edges have a larger diameter than the middle.

The upper plate (24) is formed so that a rear edge of the lower plate (22) is extended and bended with an elasticity so as to be opposite to the lower plate (22).

The rear edge of the upper plate is fastened to the lower plate by a rivet (28) for a upward movement restriction by an elastic resistance. The edge of the upper plate is formed with a cuttingblade (29) which is opposite to a fixed blade (26) of the lower plate (22). The upper plate (24) is positioned insideof the side plate (23) and is formed with an obstacle jaw (30) at a position adjacent to the edge.

The inside of the side plate (23) is mounted with a pressing lever (25) at the upper side of the upper plate (24), wherein the pressing lever (25) is mounted so that the edge thereof can be moved to the upper long groove (27) by a pin (31).

The lower side of the edge of the pressing lever (25) is formed so that the pressing projection (32) is projected rearward of the pin (31). When the pin (31) is placed at the rearward edge of the long groove (31), the pressing projection (32) is in a state to be positioned rearward of the obstacle jaw (30) of the upper plate (24). The pressing lever (25) is perfectly fitted with the upper plate (24). Therefore, the pressing projection (32) has a smaller projection than the pressing projection (25) according to the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The function of the example having such construction is explained below.

While raising the pressing lever (25) and pushing it frontward in a state fitting with the upper plate (24), the pin (31) is moved frontward within the long groove (27).

When the pin is completely moved to the edge of the long groove (27), the pressing

projection (32) is positioned at the upper side of the obstaclejaw (30) and the rear edge of the pressing lever (25) is raised.

Herein, upon moving of pin (31), the middle of the long groove (27) has a narrower diameter than the two edges. Therefore, a proper abrasion is produced when the pin (31) is moved. When positioned at the two edges, the pin (31) is in a loose state and not moved unless an artificial pressure is added.

In such a state, the nails are inserted between the fixed blade (26) and the cutting blade (29). On pressing the rear edge of the pressing lever (25), the lever (25) is rotated around a central pin (31) and the pressing projection (32) presses an obstacle jaw (30) ofthe upper plate (24) with the operation of the lever, and a cutting blade removes nails. Further, the removed nail pieces are collected in a collection chamber (21) and they are not scattered out of the chamber.

Figs. 4 to 6 show another example of the present invention, wherein a cleaning portion to formed in the pressing lever and various types of discharge holes for discharging the removed nail pieces are shown.

Referring to Fig. 4, a cleaning portion (46) is formed into a projected shape in the pressing lever (45) of the nail clippers. A discharge hole (47) is formed at the upper section of the upper plate (44). A cleaning blade (49) is rotatably mounted at the rivet (48) adhering the lower plate and the upper plate (44). A discharge hole (47) is opened and closed by a cleaning blade (49). By doing so, the nails are removed, the cleaning blade (49) is rotated, the discharge hole (47) is opened and the nail pieces can be easily discarded.

Referring to Fig. 5, the discharge hole (57) is formed at one edge of the side plate (53) of the nail clippers. The cleaning blade (59) is rotatably mounted at one side of the discharge hole (57) so that the discharge hole (57) is opened and closed.

Referring to Fig. 6, the discharge hole (67) is formed at one side of the lower plate (62) of the nail clippers. The cleaning blade (69) is rotatably mounted at one side of the discharge hole (67) so that the discharge hole (67) is opened and closed.

As shown and described above, the present invention is not intended to limit to the above examples, and various modifications and changes can be made within the

scope which does not depart from the sprit of the present invention.

Industrial Applicability] According to the construction of the present invention, the nail clippers include a lower plate (2), a side plate (3) and an upper plate (4) each formed together into a plate shape ; a pressing lever (5) is mounted between the side plates (3) at the upper side of the upper plate (4), while forming a collection chamber (1) in its inner portion; and as the position of the pressing lever is moved, the fingernails or toenails are removed by pressing the upper plate (4) with the operation of this lever.

Therefore, due to a simple construction, the cost of preparation is reduced, the preparation work is easy, the removed nail pieces are easily collected and a sanitary use of the nail clippers is possible.
