Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a navigation device and navigation method that make it possible to present destination information taking an elevation difference into consideration and reduce the processing load related to this presentation. A navigation device according to this invention comprises a current position acquisition unit for acquiring the current position and elevation of a vehicle, a map information acquisition unit for acquiring map information including positions and the elevations thereof, a route calculation unit for calculating a route from the current position acquired by the current position acquisition unit to a preset destination on the basis of the map information acquired by the map information acquisition unit, and a route guidance unit for providing guidance through the route calculated by the route calculation unit. On the basis of a first elevation difference that is the elevation difference between the elevation of the destination and the elevation of the current position or a second elevation difference that is the elevation difference between the elevation of the destination and the elevation of a last guidance point that the vehicle will last reach through the guidance, the route guidance unit displays information relating to the first elevation difference or second elevation difference on the two-dimensional map.
