Abstract:
While materials containing silicon draw attention as high capacity negative electrode active materials, such materials have the drawback of having large irreversible capacities at initial charge and discharge. In the present invention, particles that are a mixture of silicon, lithium metasilicate, and lithium oxide serve as a negative electrode active material. As the negative electrode active material already contains lithium metasilicate and lithium oxide in the particles thereof, no more compounds (lithium orthosilicate and lithium metasilicate) containing lithium and oxygen, which are a source of the irreversible capacity at the initial charge and discharge, are generated. Therefore, a negative electrode active material with a small irreversible capacity can be provided.
