Abstract:
This negative electrode material for lithium ion secondary batteries contains composite particles, each of which contains at least two flattened graphite particles or at least one spherical graphite particle and at least two flattened graphite particles, and each of which has a structure wherein at least two flattened graphite particles are assembled or bonded so that the orientation surfaces thereof are not parallel to each other. This negative electrode material for lithium ion secondary batteries has a specific surface area of from 1.0 m2/g to 3.0 m2/g as determined by a BET method utilizing nitrogen gas adsorption, a pellet density of from 1.30 g/cm3 to 1.60 g/cm3, and a pore volume of 0.47 mL/g or less in the pore diameter range of from 2 μm to 10 μm as determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry.
