Abstract:
The present invention relates to a nematic liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound and having a negative dielectric anisotropy (∆ε), and to a PSA- or PSVA-type liquid crystal display element fabricated using the same. This liquid crystal composition has an adequate pretilt angle and a minimal amount of residual monomers, and can provide a PSA- or PSVA-type liquid crystal display element having excellent response performance and extremely few or no flaws such as alignment defects or display defects due to such factors as a low voltage hold rate (VHR). A liquid crystal display element which uses this liquid crystal composition is useful as an active-matrix-drive liquid crystal display element, and can be applied as a PSA- or PSVA-type liquid crystal display element.
