Abstract:
Provided are: a nickel-containing steel for low temperatures which has a prescribed chemical composition with the nickel content being 5.0-8.0%, wherein the volume fraction of retained austenite present at a site 1.5 mm from the surface in the thickness direction is 3.0-20.0 vol%, and the ratio of the hardness at a site 1.0 mm from the surface in the thickness direction with respect to the hardness at a site from the surface in the thickness direction by 1/4 of the thickness is 1.1 or lower; and a tank for low temperatures produced using said nickel-containing steel for low temperatures.
