Abstract:
Provided is a highly reliable nickel-zinc battery which uses a separator having hydroxide ion conductivity but not permeability. This nickel-zinc battery is equipped with: a positive electrode containing a nickel hydroxide and/or a nickel oxyhydroxide; a positive electrode electrolyte containing an alkali metal hydroxide and having the positive electrode immersed therein; a negative electrode containing zinc and/or zinc oxide; a negative electrode electrolyte containing an alkali metal hydroxide and having the negative electrode immersed therein; a sealed container for housing the positive electrode, the positive electrode electrolyte, the negative electrode, and the negative electrode electrolyte; a separator having hydroxide ion conductivity but not permeability, and provided in the sealed container so as to demarcate a positive electrode chamber for housing the positive electrode and the positive electrode electrolyte, and a negative electrode chamber for housing the negative electrode and the negative electrode electrolyte; and a porous substrate provided on the positive-electrode-side surface of the separator.
