Description:
A NIGHTSTICK HAVING A PEPPER SPRAYING MEANS

TECHNICAL FIELD

This invention generally relates to nightsticks being provided to police officers and security guards but more particularly to a night stick having a pepper spraying means.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Conventional nightsticks made of hardwood or any heavy materials have been proven to be deadly or fatal especially when being used by heavy built law enforcers or security men, thereby causing human rights advocates to demand the banning of their use. While the intention for the use of nightsticks is to inflict minor harm or to be used as a self-defense tool r they are otherwise proven to cause serious debilitating harm or even deaths.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing, it is one object of this invention to provide a nightstick having a pepper spraying means that would ensure minor harm on the aggressor, thereby preventing unnecessary death while disabling him from inflicting harm to the nightstick-wielding security officer.

Another object of this invention is to provide a nightstick having a pepper spraying means that is light in weight and very handy, thereby encouraging police officers or security men to readily carry it around with them as a tool for self-defense or preservation.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention for a nightstick having a pepper spraying means will be fully understood and readily appreciated after reading the following detailed enabling description made in conjunction with the accompanying or appending drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

Fig.1 is a perspective view of a nightstick having a pepper spraying means embodying the present invention.

Fig.2 is a sectional view of the nightstick having a pepper spraying means taken along the longitudinal symmetry thereof.

Fig.3 is a perspective view of a pepper spraying triggering member and its safety pin employed or used in the present nightstick having a pepper spraying means.

Fig.4 is a fragmentary exploded cross sectional view taken at the orifice or end cap portion of the present nightstick. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring now to the drawings, there is shown the present nightstick having a pepper spraying means designated in its holistic embodiment by reference numeral 10, and generally defined by an elongated body comprising a handle 11 at one end and a containing cylinder 12 at the other end, an internally threaded cap or plug 13 having a centrally provided orifice 1 and screwably fitted at the externally threaded free end 15 of the containing cylinder 12, and a pepper spraying triggering member 16 being

accommodated in the containing cylinder 12.

The handle 11 is integrally provided with a finger guard 7

characterized by a plurality of perpendicular fins 18 having a common floor piece 19 at their free ends.

As shown in Fig.2, the containing cylinder 12 accommodates the pepper spray triggering member 16 which is generally characterized by an elongated form having an angularly positioned push head 20. As shown in Figs.1 and 2, the push head 20 is functionally exposed at the slotted portion 21 of the handle 11 and adapted to be pushed towards the orifice portion of the nightstick 0 to effect or cause the spring-controlled nozzle of a pepper spray cartridge 22 (in broken lines) to open for pepper spray dispensing or " releasing.

To prevent the unintentional or accidental release or dispense of the pepper spray, the present nightstick having a pepper spraying means 10 has a safety feature characterized by a dent 23 provided at the pepper spray triggering member 16 adapted to accommodate a safety pin 24 and arrest the triggering function thereof. To restore the triggering function of the pepper spray triggering member 16, the safety pin 24 is simply retracted from the dent 23.

As shown in Fig.2, the present nightstick having a pepper spraying means 10 has a plurality of reinforcing or rigidifying ribs 25 because it is preferably made of lightweight plastic material, such as, propylene, which may be of lesser compressive strength than metals.

While the invention for a nightstick having a pepper spraying means 10 has been disclosed in connection with the preferred embodiment shown and described in an enabling detail, various modifications, innovations or improvements thereon will become readily apparent to persons skilled in the art. Accordingly, the spirit and scope of the present invention is not limited by the foregoing examples but is to be understood and appreciated in the broadest sense allowable by law.
