Abstract:
Provided is a method in which the addition of an acid is used to recover an aliphatic carboxylic acid from an aqueous solution that contains an ammonium salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid obtained from a feedstock of biological origins, wherein an ammonium salt of sulfuric acid and a nitrogen-containing composition generated as side products can be stably and efficiently recovered. The provided method, which is used to manufacture a nitrogen-containing composition from an aqueous solution that contains an ammonium salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid obtained from a feedstock of biological origins, is characterized by the inclusion of: a crystallization step in which an ammonium salt of sulfuric acid is concentrated and crystallized from an aqueous solution containing an ammonium salt of sulfuric acid; a solid-liquid separation step in which solid-liquid separation is performed on the ammonium salt of sulfuric acid obtained in the crystallization step; and a mother-liquor recycling step characterized in that some but not all of the mother liquor obtained in the solid-liquid separation step is recycled in at least one step among steps up to and including the crystallization step.
