Abstract:
A non-destructive method of examining a subject to be examined, which includes one or more elements, includes the steps of firing a beam of neutrons upon the subject along an axis that transects a control point, synchronizing and detecting gamma rays from various directions inclined at congruent angles from the axis upon a plurality of points of measurement that are positioned radially and equidistant from the axis, computing each respective detected gamma ray across each of a plurality of energy regions, finding whether the value computed for each respective energy region exceeds a threshold, determining the energy regions wherein all computed values exceed the threshold, analyzing types of elements from the energy regions thus determined, and detecting the locations of the types of elements thus analyzed upon the subject, in accordance with the directions and the relative locations between the surface of the subject, the control point, and each respective point of measurement.
