Description:
Non-skid device for vehicle wheels

Technical field

The invention relates to the field of non-skid (anti-slip) devices, namely the non-skid devices for vehicle wheels.

Prior Art

Non-skid devices for automotive wheels feature a non-skid mechanism, mountable to a holder that is attached to the wheel disk separately before mounting the non-skid mechanism. Given the various car wheel disc designs, such as rear and front wheels of utility vehicles, passenger car wheels, there is not only the need for different holders, but non-skid mechanisms have to be adapted to these holders .

The known non-skid mechanisms feature non-skid elements in the form of adjustable arms, which are fitted at the end with engagement surfaces oriented perpendicular to the arm. In the working position, the underside of the engagement surfaces abuts to the circumferential surface of the tire, and the upper sides of the engagement surfaces gradually abut to the terrain while the vehicle is moving. The arms with non-skid surfaces are adjustable from the basic (non-working) position to the working position and vice versa, either manually or mechanically or pneumatically, or using electric actuators. The said actuators to adjust arms are also controllable remotely from the driver's cab. In commercial vehicles, pneumatic drives are mostly used to adjust the arms of non- skid devices but they are only suitable for the rear wheels of these vehicles due to their design. Summary of the invention

The goal of the present invention is to create a non-skid device for vehicle wheels, whose non-skid mechanism is applicable to wheels of all types of vehicles and differ only by a holder according to the wheel disc design, being controllable from the driver's cab, easy to install and functionally reliable.

The said goal is achieved by a non-skid device for automotive wheels, featuring a holder mounted on the wheel disc and a non-skid mechanism mountable to the holder and having adjustable arms fitted at the ends with engagement surfaces, which abut, in the working position, against the circumferential surface of the tire according to the invention, whose essence lies in that the non-skid mechanism features a bottom plate attachable to the holder, and the top plate fastened to the bottom plate, on the outer side of which there are the arms with the engagement surfaces and radial sliding and pivoting fit around their longitudinal axis.

To eject and rotate the arms, they are made up of two parts, the top part being pivotable relative to the bottom one.

A preferred embodiment is that the arms are arranged in a guide where a guiding element linked with the top part of the arm extends into its longitudinal groove with the following helical section.

To improve the function, the bottom part of the arm is cushioned and connected to the gear mechanism.

An appropriate gear mechanism may consist of a toothed rack which engages with a pinion mounted on the top plate coaxially with the wheel axis. If there are more than two toothed racks, each pair of opposed toothed racks is offset horizontally against the other opposed pairs .

In order to reduce the stress to the arms, the engagement surfaces are slide fit by their bearing portion in the top part of the arm and spring pressed from the top part against a stop.

The actuator is made to advantage as an electric actuator mounted on the underside of the top plate, connected with the pinion shaft via a gear mechanism.

The gear mechanism is formed to advantage by a pinion and the gear engaging it, being mounted on the pinion shaft.

The locking device is allocated to the gear mechanism to block the positions of the retracted and extended arms.

In particular, it is advisable to allocate an appropriate locking device to the gear.

The locking device is formed to advantage by an electric actuator with a screw and nut transmission. mechanism.

The holder is attached to the wheel by means of several bolts which secure the wheel to the axle hub.

A bayonet coupling with a safety lock is used to easily fasten the bottom plate of the non-skid mechanism to the holder.

Example of invention embodiment

A non-skid device in the embodiment example is intended for commercial vehicle wheels and features a holder 3_ (Fig.10) separately mounted on the wheel disc 2 and a non-skid mechanism 4, which is attachable to the holder 3_. The holder 3_ is designed for the discs 2 ^ of the rear wheels of commercial vehicles. It will be partly different for the front wheels of these vehicles, especially its height will be lower.

The holder 3 is attached to the wheel disc 2 by means of five bolts and nuts to fasten the wheel to the axle hub. As the wheels of commercial vehicles are mounted using ten bolts and nuts, five of them are loosened to install the holder 3_, always one left between two loosened. The holder 3_ features five corresponding holes Ί_, to be used to fit the holder to the loose bolts to be then tightened with loose nuts . The non- skid mechanism 4 features the bottom plate 16 attachable to the holder 3 and the top plate 17 attached to the bottom plate 16 by means of columns 17. The outer side of the top plate 17 features the arms 5 with the engagement surfaces £3 and radially sliding and pivoting fit around their longitudinal axis. The bottom plate 16 of the non-skid mechanism 4 is attached to the holder 3 by means of a bayonet joint 19 with the lock pin 20.

The arms 5 are formed by two parts 6 and 1_, of which the upper part 1_ is pivotable relative to the lower part 6. The arms 5 are arranged in a guide 9, into whose longitudinal groove 10 , followed with a helical section 11, a guiding element 12 connected to the upper part 7 of the arm 5_ extends . This is to achieve the sliding movement of the arms 5_ and their rotation 90 degrees after ejecting. As a result, the arms 5 and the engagement surfaces S3 are in the working position.

The lower part 6 of the arm 5 is connected, in this case, for example, to a toothed rack 22 ^ , which engages with the pinion 21 mounted on the top plate 17 coaxially with the wheel axis. As there are six arms 5 in the example of embodiment, each pair of opposed toothed racks 2_2 must be vertically- displaced against the other opposing pairs. This is not to prevent from simultaneous movement of toothed racks.

The engagement surfaces 8 are sliding fit in the upper part 1_ of the arm 5, in particular by means of a stop 14, which is sliding in the recess 15 of the upper part 1_ of the arm 5_. The spring 13_ pushes the engagement surfaces 8 in the direction from the upper part Ί . against the end of the recess 15. This ensures that the engagement surfaces 8 cannot fall out. The spring 13 ensures the movement of the engagement surfaces 8 during travel, which corresponds to the compression of the tire 1 when the wheel is in contact with the ground. Moreover, it also provides for the cushioning of the toothed rack 22 when extending the arms 5 together with the cushioning in lower part 6 of the arm 5_, when some of the engagement surfaces 8 would hit the road, which would block the movement of all arms 5.

The underside of the top plate 17 is provided with an electric actuator 25_, whose in this case the bevel pinion 2_3 engages with a bevel gear 24^ which is fit on a shaft of the pinion 21, engaging with the toothed racks 22. A locking device is assigned to the bevel gear 24 to lock it in the position of retracted and extended arms 5. The locking device consists of an electric actuator 26 with a screw and nut transmission mechanism. Batteries to supply the electric actuators 25 and 26 are situated in the compartment under the top plate 17. This allows wireless control from the driver's cab. Hall probes are provided to control the working position of the arms 5 and their retracted position, and the retracted and extended locking positions of the bevel gear 24.

The non-skid mechanism 4 is provided with an external cover (not shown) to prevent the ingress of dirt and water- into the interior. A switch for switching on and off the electronics and the levers to control the lock pins 20 of the bayonet joint 19 are appropriately situated on the cover.

Industrial application

The non-skid mechanism according to the invention is utilizable for the rear and front wheels of commercial vehicles and for the wheels of passenger, off-road and other vehicles. Only a holder needs to be customized according to the disc design for the said wheels.
