Abstract:
A nonwoven fabric obtained by thermally shrinking at an area shrinkage percentage of at least 15 % an intertwined fibrous body comprising 30-100 wt.% of hollow fibers (A) having a shrinkage percentage in 70° hot water of at least 35 %, and 0-70 wt.% of other fibers, characterized in that a hollowness percentage of shrunk hollow fibers (A') in the nonwoven fabric is 30-70 %, an apparent density of the nonwoven fabric being 0.12-0.20 g/cm?3¿, a tensile strength per unit area and unit weight of the nonwoven fabric being not lower than 270 (kg/cm)/(g/cm?2¿). An artificial leather obtained by impregnating this nonwoven fabric with an elastic polymer. The nonwoven fabric has light weight, a high flexibility, a high buckling resistance, the artificial leather having a sufficiently light weight, a strength, high flexibility and solidness, and a low rate of occurrence of buckling, and is useful, especially, as a material for shoes.
