Title:
NOSED PAD ASSEMBLY FOR EYEGLASSES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2005119343
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
A novel nose pad assembly (16) for eyeglasses (10) is provided wherein the support (36) and nose pad (38) are formed as a fully articulating ball and socket joint. The ball and socket joint provides excellent adjustability of the nose pads (38) in a simple mechanical construction. In a unique method of forming the nose pad assembly (16) the support structure (ball) (42) is formed in a first molding step and an adjustable pad member (38) is molded directly over the bass (42) of the support structure (36) in a second molding step. The present invention utilized in-mold-assembly techniques to reduce the assembly steps required to form such a nose pad assembly (16) while further resulting in a nose pad that has increased adjustability and utility. Alternately, the pad portion (38) may be formed first and the support structure (36) formed second. Also, the materials selected may include either hard or soft plastics to form either component.
