Abstract:

Disclosed is an azo compound represented by the formula (1) below or a salt thereof. (1) (In the formula, D represents a residue of a diazo component of an aromatic ring or a heterocyclic ring; R₁ represents a hydrogen atom, a C₁-C₄ alkyl group or a trifluoromethyl group; R₂ represents a hydrogen atom, a cyano group or carbamoyl group; R₃, R₄, R₅ and R₆ may be the same as or different from one another and respectively represent a hydrogen atom or a C₁-C₄ alkyl group substituted by a sulfonic acid group or a carboxyl group.) Also disclosed is an ink composition characterized by containing such an azo compound or a salt thereof. The ink composition is excellent in storage stability and has an orange color by itself. This ink composition is suitable for inkjet recording, since it takes on a brilliant color hue when used in inkjet recording and the printed matter has good fastness such as light resistance and ozone resistance.
