Abstract:
Provided are a novel bis(hydroxybenzaldehyde) compound which is suitable as functional chemicals, such as a material for a photosensitive resist composition, a raw material and a curing agent for an epoxy resin, a developer and a fading prevention agent for use in a heat-sensitive recording material, a bactericide, a mildewproofing agent and an antioxidant, and a raw material therefor; and a novel polynuclear polyphenol compound derived therefrom. A bis(hydroxybenzaldehyde) compound is produced by a method comprising reacting a 2,6-di(hydroxymethyl)-4-alkylphenol and a hydroxybenzaldehyde represented by the general formula (14) in the presence of a trihalogenated acetic acid catalyst or a phosphoric acid catalyst.
