Title:
NOVEL GENE PARTICIPATING IN THE MAINTENANCE OF SMOOTH MUSCLE CELL DIFFERENTIATION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/009315
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A cDNA fragment participating in the maintenance of smooth muscle differentiation is isolated with the use of a culture system of chick gizzard smooth muscle cells by using the differential display method and the subtracted hybridization method. Using this cDNA sequence as a query, retrieval is made on cDNA sequences of Helix Research Institute (Japanese Patent Application 2000-118776) and thus a novel gene 'C-NT2RP3001495' is obtained. The protein encoded by this gene has two WW domains participating in protein interactions in the N-terminal domain. It is suggested that this protein binds to another protein and thus regulate the intracellular signal transduction, gene expression, etc. to thereby participate in the maintenance of the differentiation of smooth muscle cells. This protein and a compound regulating the expression thereof are useful in developing remedies for various diseases in association with abnormality in the maintenance of smooth muscle cell differentiation.
