Abstract:
A novel glucose derivative inducing apoptosis. The glucose derivative is represented by the following general formula (I) wherein X, Y and Z are the same or different and each is hydrogen, halogenoalkyl, hydroxy, or alkoxy, provided that not all of X, Y and Z are hydrogen; R¿1?, R¿2?, and R¿3? are the same or different and each is hydrogen or acyl (COR¿4?), provided that not all of R¿1?, R¿2?, and R¿3? are hydrogen; and R¿4? is an (un)saturated, linear or branched, C¿3-25? hydrocarbon group. The glucose derivative selectively induces apoptosis in unnecessary or pathogenic cells. It is hence useful as a medicine for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases attributable to the cells.
