This object detecting device is applied to a vehicle (50) provided with a distance measuring sensor (10) which measures the distance to any objects present around the vehicle by transmitting exploratory waves around the vehicle and receiving reflected waves originating from the exploratory waves, and a vehicle-mounted camera (20) which captures images around the vehicle-mounted camera. The object detecting device is provided with: an image acquiring unit which acquires a captured image captured by the vehicle-mounted camera; a determining unit which determines whether a prescribed object, in relation to which object detection by means of reflected waves from the distance measuring sensor would be problematic, is included in an image object recognized on the basis of the captured image; a sensitivity control unit which increases the sensitivity of the object detection performed by means of the distance measuring sensor if the prescribed object is determined to be included in the image object; and a vehicle control unit which executes vehicle control taking the prescribed object as a target object.
