Abstract:
The aim of the present invention lies in detecting important information on an object with a small amount of computation. An object detection section (22A) generates an edge image from a colour image. The object detection section (22A) evaluates the symmetry of an image including the edge image, taking into account the pixel location of a pixel of interest. The object detection section (22A) identifies pixels that are centres of symmetry of objects having symmetry. An object detection section (22) detects the object width for each pixel at a centre of symmetry. The object detection section (22A) identifies the width in the perpendicular direction of the object from the width in the perpendicular direction of the pixels of the centre of symmetry, and identifies the width in the horizontal direction of the object from the object width identified for each pixel of the centre of symmetry.
