Abstract:
The problem addressed by the present invention is to detect important information of an object by means of a low amount of computation. An object detection unit (22) generates an edge image from a color image. The object detection unit (22) evaluates the symmetry of an image contained in the edge image taking into consideration the pixel position of pixels of note. The object detection unit (22) identifies pixels at the center of symmetry of an object having symmetry. The object detection unit (22) detects the object width for each pixel at the center of symmetry. The object detection unit (22) identifies the width in the vertical direction of the object from the width in the vertical direction of the pixels at the center of symmetry, and identifies the width in the horizontal direction of the object from the object width identified for each pixel at the center of symmetry.
