Abstract:

An observation device and method and an observation device control program for observing an image of an observation target by moving a housing relative to an imaging optical system, wherein an autofocus control is performed at a high level of accuracy, and the effect of a vertical position change which accompanies housing movement is reduced. Before the observation region of an imaging optical system 14 reaches the observation position inside a culture vessel 50, an autofocus displacement sensor detects in advance the vertical position of the culture vessel 50 at the observation position, and when performing an autofocus control on the basis of the vertical position, the difference between the vertical position of the vessel 50 at the observation position which was detected in advance and the vertical position of the vessel 50 at the time when the observation region of the imaging optical system 14 scans to the observation position is obtained, and on the basis of this difference, the objective lens is moved in the optical axis direction.
