Abstract:
An obstacle alert device that makes explicit to a driver the presence of an obstacle approaching a vehicle, without causing the vicinity of the vehicle to become difficult to see, said device comprising: a captured image acquisition unit that obtains an image captured of the scene in the vicinity of the vehicle; a target captured image generation unit that generates a target captured image on the basis of the captured image; an object presence determination unit that determines whether or not an object is present in an outside region that is on the outside of the target captured image; a travel direction determination unit that determines the travel direction of the object in the outside region; and an explicit image output unit that, when the travel direction determination unit determines that an object in the outside region will travel to the center of the target captured image, repeats display whereby a plurality of indicators that are lit for a certain period and then unlit are displayed at sequentially different positions, from the outside region side where the object is present in the target captured image, towards the center, and also repeatedly performs display whereby the plurality of indicators are displayed at a position where same partially pile up, and, an indicator that is displayed later is superposed on a section where the indicator displayed later and an indicator displayed immediately prior overlap.
