Abstract:
An obstacle detection system (10) comprises: an image capturing apparatus (20) that captures an image around the vehicle and that outputs an image signal; an obstacle detecting apparatus (30) that detects, from the image signal, the presence or absence of an obstacle; and a lighting apparatus (40) that is mounted on the vehicle. In the obstacle detecting apparatus (30), a light status control unit (31) controls the turning-on/off of the lighting apparatus (40). When the light status of the lighting apparatus (40) has changes, a differential image generating unit (34) generates a differential image based on the difference between the image signal outputted from the image capturing apparatus (20) and the image signal of a past frame stored in an image data storing unit (35). An obstacle determining unit (38) determines the presence or absence of the obstacle on the basis of the differential image.
