This occupant protection device comprises: a vehicle seat disposed in a space on the inner side of a vehicle side wall; and a side airbag device that is provided to the side wall or the vehicle seat, and that has a side airbag which inflates and deploys in between the side wall and the vehicle seat. The vehicle seat includes: a pressure-receiving portion that receives a load from a seated passenger; a frame for supporting the pressure-receiving portion; and a movement means configured so that, at the time of a side airbag operation in which an impact acting upon the side wall from outside causes the side airbag device to operate and thereby causes the side airbag to inflate and deploy, the movement means causes the pressure-receiving portion to move so that the passenger is pushed in a direction away from the side wall before the passenger makes contact with the side airbag.
