Abstract:
The invention relates to an odorant for imparting a warning smell of a gas leak
to gas and a process for production of town gas with the odorant. The odorant is
a mixture of n-butyl isocyanide with 2-hexyne and/or 1-pentyne; a mixture of
ethyl isocyanide with 2-hexyne and/or 1-pentyne; a mixture of n-butyl isocyanide,
ethyl isocyanide, 2-hexyne and 1-pentyne; 2-hexyne, 1-pentyne, or 1-butyne,
or a mixture of two or more of them; or a mixture of 2-hexyne and/or 1-pentyne with
3-methylbutanal and/or t-butylmercaptan. Since the odorant is completely
free from sulfur, fuel gas containing the odorant does not generate sulfur oxides
even in combustion to contribute to environment pollution control. Further,
such fuel gas can be favorably used in fuel cells.
