Abstract:
Disclosed is an oil agent for acrylic fibers for the production of carbon fibers, which enables the carbon fibers to have excellent strength. Also disclosed is a method for producing carbon fibers using the oil agent.
Specifically disclosed is an oil agent for acrylic fibers for the production of carbon fibers, which essentially contains an epoxy polyether-modified silicone and a surfactant. The weight ratio of the epoxy polyether-modified silicone to the total nonvolatile content of the oil agent is 1-95% by weight, and the weight ratio of the surfactant to the total nonvolatile content of the oil agent is 5-50% by weight. Also specifically disclosed is a method for producing carbon fibers, which comprises: a spinning step in which acrylic fibers for the production of carbon fibers are produced by having the above-described oil agent adhere to acrylic fibers that are the starting material for carbon fibers; a flame-proofing treatment step in which the acrylic fibers produced in the spinning step are converted into flame-resistant fibers in an oxidizing atmosphere at 200-300˚C; and a carbonizing step in which the flame-resistant fibers are carbonized in an inert atmosphere at 300-2,000˚C.
