Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a cosmetic and an external preparation for skin, each of which is free from the problem of precipitation of crystals of allantoin at a lower temperature and has excellent emulsion stability, using an oil-in-water type emulsion composition containing allantoin and having a pH value of 3 to 6. An oil-in-water type emulsion composition for use as a cosmetic or an external preparation for skin, which comprises a component (a): allantoin, a component (b): a long-chain acyl methyl taurine salt and a component (c): a polyhydric alcohol, wherein preferably the ratio of the content of the component (a) to the content of the component (c) is 0.002 to 0.05, more preferably the content of the component (b) is 0.2 to 3%, still further preferably a polyoxyalkylene-added glycerin and a polyoxyalkylene-added diglyceryl are contained as components (d) and the pH value of the oil-in-water type emulsion composition is 3 to 6 at 25°C.
