This control valve comprises: a tubular valve body (13) having an advance port (35) and a retard port (34); a tubular spool valve (31) slidably disposed in the inner periphery of the valve body (13) and provided with eight one-end-side spool holes (50) in the circumferential direction; and a second check valve (56) having an approximately tubular frame body portion (58) disposed in the inner periphery of the spool valve (31) and a first tongue piece portion (57a) and a second tongue piece portion (57b) that are formed integrally with the frame body portion (58). The first and second tongue piece portions (57a, 57b) are provided at substantially equally spaced positions in the circumferential direction of the spool valve (31). The first and second tongue piece portions (57a, 57b) are deformed toward the radially inside of the spool valve (31) when applied with working oil pressure from the corresponding one-end-side spool holes (50). At this time, first and second working oil pressures are opposed to each other across the spool valve (31) and maintain the position of the second check valve (56) relative to the spool valve (31).
