Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] A high performance oil seal for reciprocating motion, preventing
the inner peripheral surface of a backup ring from being in contact at its entire
surface with a reciprocating shaft. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The oil seal
(1) has a seal body (6) provided with a seal lip (7) capable of being in sliding contact
with the reciprocating shaft (8), the resin backup ring (4) placed so as to support
the seal lip (7) from the atmosphere side in order to secure durability of the seal
lip (7) and having at least one annular groove (21) that can hold a lubrication
member and that is formed in that inner peripheral surface of the backup ring which
faces the reciprocating shaft (8), and a holding member (22) for holding the backup
ring (4) between the holding member (8) and a seal body (6) in a sandwiched manner.
The inner peripheral surface (20) of the backup ring (4) is formed in a tapered
shape expanding in diameter from the sealed side (OS) toward the atmosphere side
(AS).
