Abstract:
An oily material for treating a fiber, which comprises a compound represented by the following general formula (I): R?1¿COO-(CH¿2?CH¿2?O)¿x?-RO-(CH¿2?CH¿2?O)¿y?-R?2¿ : wherein R represents an alkylene group or a heteroalkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms which may be substituted with 1 to 2 alkyl groups having 1 to 2 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R group has 3 or more carbon atoms in total, R¿1? represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 19 carbon atoms, R¿2? represents a hydrogen atom or a saturated or unsaturated acyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and x and y are each an integer of 1 or more, on the proviso that x + y = 5 to 20. The oily material for treating a fiber is caused to be present on a fiber in an amount of 0.1 to 1.5 wt % based on the weight of the fiber. The oily material makes a fiber less prone to have fluffs or to break, and also has good biodegradability.
