[Best Mode for Invention]

Hereinafter, an explanation on a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to the present invention will be given with reference to the attached drawings .

FIG.l is a perspective view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG.2 is an exploded perspective view showing the device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to the present invention, FIG.3 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to another embodiment of the present invention, FIG.4 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to still another embodiment of the present invention, FIG.5 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to yet still another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG.6 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash

basin according to yet another embodiment of the present invention.

As shown in FIG. I 1 . a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to one embodiment of the present invention largely includes a drain pipe 100, a drain trap 200, and an actuator for ascending and descending a drain valve 103 of the drain pipe 100.

The drain pipe 100 is mounted on the drain hole of the wash basin so as to drain the water in the wash basin therethrough when the drain valve 103 is ascended, and the drain trap 200 filters the foreign matters like foreign substances such as hairs, residues, etc., from the water being drained through the drain pipe 100 and discharges the filtered water to a sewage pipe through a outlet port 204. Next, the actuator moves the drain valve 103 of the drain pipe 100 upwardly and downwardly so as to store and discharge water in and from the wash basin.

In the preferred one embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIG.l, a link bar 111 serves as the actuator adapted to move the drain valve 103 of the drain pipe 100 upwardly and downwardly.

This embodiment of the present invention is shown in more detail in FIG.2. As shown in FIG.2, the drain valve 103 has an 0-ring 104 and a rod 105 mounted at one side of the lower periphery thereof, and the rod 105 is adapted to be inserted into a guide hole 102 formed in a tubular shape inside the drain pipe 100.

The drain pipe 100 having the drain valve 103 inserted thereinto is inserted into the drain hole of the wash basin and is then fixed to the wash basin by means of a nut 107.

Next, a bracket 108 having a support stand 109 mounted at one

side thereof is fastened to the lower periphery of the drain pipe 100.

The bracket 108 has a screw thread formed along the inner periphery thereof to correspond to the screw thread of the drain pipe 100, and it is cut at the opposite side of the support stand 109 thereof such that the two divided bracket pieces are fastened by using a fixing bolt 117 and then fixed to the drain pipe 100, without any movement.

The support stand 109 of the bracket 108 is hingeably coupled to a coupling slot 112 formed in an intermediate portion of the link bar 111. The link bar 111 is hingeably coupled at one end thereof to the rod 105 of the drain valve 103 and hingeably coupled at the other end to the push rod 115 by means of a link-coupling member 114. At this time, the link bar 111 has a plurality of locking protrusions 113 formed on the other end thereof at given intervals, and when the link-coupling member 114 is coupled to the link bar 111, it is insertedly fixed to one of the plurality of locking protrusions 113, thereby allowing the link bar 111 to be coupled to the push rod 115.

The rod 105 of the drain valve 103 that is adapted to be inserted into the guide hole 102 of the drain pipe 100 desirably has two O-rings 104 mounted along the outer periphery thereof, so as to be smoothly ascended and descended along the guide hole 102, without having any gap from the inner periphery of the guide hole 102.

The drain pipe 100 has an excess water-draining hole 101 formed on one side surface thereof. If water is filled over a predetermined level in the wash basin, it flows over a hole (not shown) separately formed on the wash basin, and at this time, the excessive amount of water is drained through the excess water-draining hole 101 formed on the drain pipe 100.

The drain pipe 100 as constructed above is coupled to the drain trap 200 along the lower periphery thereof.

The drain trap 200 has a screw thread formed along the upper inner periphery thereof to correspond to the screw thread formed along the outer periphery of the drain pipe 100, so as to be screw-coupled to the lower periphery of the drain pipe 100. At this time, the outlet port 204 of the drain trap 200 is oriented to the drain pipe 100, and next, a nut 110 is fastened along the drain pipe 100 so as to fixedly couple the drain trap 200 to the drain pipe 100, without any movement .

The drain trap 200 has a separating wall 201 formed in a tubular shape along the inner periphery of a trap body, the separating wall 201 having a closed upper portion and an opened lower portion, a filter screen 202 mounted along the inner periphery of a trap body and the lower outer periphery of the separating wall 201, and fixing means mounted on the lower outer periphery thereof such that a cap 206 is hingeably coupled to the trap body. Since the fixing means serves to fix the cap 206 in a state of shutting on the drain trap 200, it is desirably formed of a snap fastener 205 that is easily operated and simply configured.

At this time, the cap 206 desirably has a packing member (which is not shown) mounted along the inner periphery thereof so as to prevent the generation of the gap from the drain trap 200.

Now, an explanation on the operation of the device for opening and shutting the drain valve for the wash basin according to the present invention will be given. If the push rod 115 is pulled upwardly so as to store water in the wash basin, the link bar 111, which is coupled to the end portion of the push rod 115 and has the coupling

slot 112 hingeably coupled to the support stand 109 of the bracket 108, is rotated with respect to the coupling slot 112, and next, the rotating link bar 111 downwardly moves the rod 105 of the drain valve 103 hingeably coupled to the other end of the link bar 111, thereby shutting the drain valve 103.

Under the above-mentioned state, if the push rod 115 is pushed and moved downwardly after the water is used up, the drain valve 103 is opened by the reverse operation to the above-mentioned operation, such that the water in the wash basin flows through the drain pipe 100 to an inlet port 203 of the drain trap 200.

The water flowing to the drain trap 200 flows through the inner periphery of the separating wall 201 formed to the pipe-like shape inside the drain trap 200 to the outer periphery of the separating wall 201 and is then discharged through the outlet port 204. At this time, the foreign substances such as hairs, residues, etc., contained in the water are filtered through the filter screen 202 formed along the lower outer periphery of the separating wall 201 and thus accumulated on the lower portion of the filter screen 202, that is, on the upper portion of the cap 206. The filtered water is discharged to the outlet port 204.

If the fixing means mounted on the lower periphery of the drain trap 200, that is, the snap fastener 205 is disassembled by a user so as to open the cap 206, the foreign matters like the foreign substances such as hairs, residues, etc., filtered through the filter screen 202 are easily removed, thereby keeping the filter screen 202 at a clean state. Since the water is stored from the cap 206 to the outlet port 204 in the state where the cap 206 is closed on the drain trap 200, the drain trap 200 prevents the bad

smells emitted from the sewage pipe from being transmitted to the drain hole of the wash basin.

FIG.3 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to another embodiment of the present invention, wherein the actuator of the drain valve 103 of the drain pipe 100 is the same as that as shown in FIGS.l and 2, and the drain trap 200 is different from that as shown in FIGS.l and 2.

As shown in FIG.3, a outlet port 217 is formed on the lower portion of the drain trap 200, and a cleaning pipe 211 is formed downwardly on one side of the drain trap 200 in such a manner as to be hingeably coupled to a cap 215 by using fixing means.

The drain trap 200 has a first separating wall 212 inclinedly formed downwardly on the upper inner periphery thereof and a second separating wall 213 inclinedly formed upwardly on the lower inner periphery thereof in such a manner as to be opposite to the first separating wall 212. The cleaning pipe 211 has a filter screen 214 having a bent portion inserted thereinto such that the bent portion of the filter screen 214 is brought into close contact with the space between the first separating wall 212 and the second separating wall 213.

Under the above-mentioned configuration, the operation for ascending the drain valve 103 by means of the push rod 115 is the same as mentioned above, and the water flowing to the inlet port 203 of the drain trap 200 flows to the cleaning pipe 211 by means of the first separating wall 212 and is passed over the second separating wall 213. Then, the water is discharged to the outlet port 217.

At this time, when the water is passed over the second separating wall 213 from the cleaning pipe 211 and is

discharged to the outlet port 217, the foreign matters like foreign substances such as hairs, residues, etc., contained in the water are filtered through a filter screen 214, and if a cap 215 is opened by releasing fixing means by a user, the filtered foreign matters are easily removed to make the filter screen 214 conveniently cleaned.

The water flowing to the drain trap 200 through the drain pipe 100 partially stays in the cleaning pipe 211 and inside the second separating wall 212, thereby preventing the bad smells emitted from the sewage pipe from being transmitted to the drain hole of the wash basin.

FIG.4 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to still another embodiment of the present invention, wherein driven and driving cylinders 220 and 224 serve as the actuator for actuating the drain valve 103.

As shown in FIG.4, an actuating bar 116 is mounted on the rod 105 of the drain valve 103, and the driven cylinder 220 is fixedly coupled to the bracket 108. A cylinder rod 221 of the driven cylinder 220 is coupled to the actuating bar 116.

Further, the push rod 225 disposed on the wash basin is coupled to the cylinder rod of the driving cylinder 224, and the ports 222 of each of the driving cylinder 224 and the driven cylinder 220 are connected to each other by means of hoses 223. The driving cylinder 224 and the driven cylinder 220 are desirably formed of either a hydraulic cylinder or a pneumatic cylinder. Desirably, they are formed of the pneumatic cylinder, and the driving cylinder 224 has a relatively larger capacity than the driven cylinder 220.

According to the present invention, if a push rod 225 is pulled or pressed by a user, the air in the driving cylinder

224 is compressed and transmitted to the driven cylinder 220 through the hose 223. The compressed air that is transmitted to the driven cylinder 220 causes the cylinder rod 221 of the driven cylinder 220 to be operated, thereby ascending the drain valve 103.

The driving cylinder 224 and the driven cylinder 220 are formed of a single acting cylinder or a double acting cylinder, and desirably, they are formed of the double acting cylinder. When the double acting cylinder is applied, the drain valve 103 can be ascended even with a relatively small force applied from the user.

When the driven and driving cylinders 220 and 224 serve as the actuator, the drain valve 103 can be ascended with a small force applied from the user, and the installation of the link is not needed, thereby making the installing operation very simple.

FIG.5 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to yet still another embodiment of the present invention, wherein an electric cylinder 230 having a cylinder rod 231 operated by an electromagnet mounted therein serves as the actuator for actuating the drain valve 103.

As shown in FIG.5, the actuating bar 116 is mounted on the rod 105 of the drain valve 103, and the electric cylinder 230 is fixedly coupled to the bracket 108. A cylinder rod 231 of the electric cylinder 230 is coupled to the actuating bar 116, and the actuating bar 116 is elastically supported by means of a spring 232 of the bracket 108. The electric cylinder 230 is electrically connected to a switch (not shown) separately installed on the wash basin.

According to the present invention, the drain valve 103 is opened by the elasticity of the spring 232 at normal times, but if the switch is operated by the user, power is applied to the electric cylinder 230 to pull the cylinder rod 231, such that the rod 105 of the drain valve 103 is pulled to allow the drain valve 103 to close the drain hole of the wash basin.

If the power supplied to the electric cylinder 230 is turned off after the water in the wash basin is all used, the drain valve 103 is opened by the elasticity of the spring 232, thereby draining the water in the wash basin.

When the electric cylinder 230 serves as the actuator, the drain valve 103 can be ascended by the simple manipulation of the switch by the user, and the installation of the link is not needed, thereby making the installing operation very simple.

FIG.6 is a sectional view showing a device for opening and shutting a drain valve for a wash basin according to yet another embodiment of the present invention, wherein a cylinder 245 adapted to operate the drain valve 103 and a solenoid valve 240 adapted to control the cylinder 245 serve as the actuator for actuating the drain valve 103.

As shown in FIG.6, the actuating bar 116 is mounted on the rod 105 of the drain valve 103, and the double acting cylinder 245 is fixedly coupled to the bracket 108. A cylinder rod 246 of the cylinder 245 is coupled to the actuating bar 116.

The solenoid valve 240, which is a valve that shifts the direction by an electric signal, is connected to a public water pipe by means of a supply hose 242, to the cylinder 245 by means of distributing hoses 243, and electrically to the switch (not shown) separately installed on the wash basin.

If the switch is manipulated by the user to apply power to the solenoid valve 240, the water in the public water pipe flows through the supply hose 242 and is supplied to the inside of the cylinder 245 via the distributing hoses 243, which allows the cylinder rod 246 to be ascended or descended, thereby opening or shutting the drain valve 103.

The supply hose 242 is connected to the public water pipe, and when the solenoid valve 240 is operated to internally connect the public water pipe with the cylinder 245, high pressure of public water is supplied to the cylinder 245, thereby operating the cylinder rod 246.

In order to smoothly operate the solenoid valve 240, the water in the interior of the solenoid valve 240 should be discharged to the outside whenever the solenoid valve 240 is operated, and in this case, the discharged water is discharged to the drain trap 200 through a drain hose 244.

The cylinder, the electric cylinder, and the solenoid valve used as the actuator in the present invention are widely applied in various industrial fields, and therefore, an explanation on the detailed structure thereof will be avoided for the brevity of the description.

While the present invention has been described with reference to the particular illustrative embodiments, it is not to be restricted by the embodiments but only by the appended claims. It is to be appreciated that those skilled in the art can change or modify the embodiments without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
