The purpose of the present invention is to provide an operation support device and an operation support method, whereby a driver can perform operations without watching an operation instrument and can readily ascertain which switch to operate. This operation support device comprises: an indication information acquisition unit (11) that obtains indication information including the position of an indicating body or the indication direction for the indicating body, relative to an operation panel (22); a switch selection unit (12) that selects, as a selected switch, at least one operation switch among a plurality of operation switches provided in the operation panel, selecting same on the basis of the indication information; an operation image creation unit (13) that synthesizes an indicating body image with an operation panel image indicating the arrangement of the plurality of operation switches on the operation panel, synthesizing same on the basis of the indication information, and creates an operation image; and a display control unit (14) that displays the operation image on a display device (21) mounted in a vehicle. The operation image shows unselected switches and the selected switch in different formats, said unselected switches being operation switches other than the selected switch.
