Abstract:
An optical amplification characteristic simulation device calculates the gain wavelength characteristics of an amplification medium by using the spectrum of a signal light to be inputted to an optical amplifier and in accordance with a preset calculation formula. This calculation formula has parameters corresponding to the gain fluctuation components due to the gain spectral Hall burning (GSHB) phenomenon. The parameters are defined by the function having modeled the physical phenomenon that the inverted distribution ratio by the GSHB drops on the basis of the increase in the number of occupied electrons at the individual Stark levels on the terminal side. The output power of the signal light is determined on the basis of the gain wavelength characteristics calculated, thereby to perform the optical amplification characteristic simulation of the optical amplifier. Thus, the calculation model of a high general versatility, as based on the physical phenomenon, for the gain fluctuation due to the GSHB can be constructed to simulate the optical amplification characteristics of the optical amplifier in a high precision for arbitrary conditions.
