Abstract:
In optical amplifiers that use a multicore optical fiber, the absorption efficiency of excitation light in an optical amplification medium is low and the amplification efficiency of light intensity becomes lower in the cladding excitation method, so this optical amplifier comprises: an optical amplification medium which has gain in the wavelength band of signal light and which receives the signal light; an excitation light introducing means which introduces excitation light that excites the optical amplification medium into the optical amplification medium; and a residual excitation light introducing means which introduces, into the optical amplification medium, the residual excitation light that is outputted from the optical amplification medium and that has a wavelength component of the excitation light.
